Public Speaking

When asked to speak in public do you…….

  • Feel hot and sweaty
  • Blush
  • Itch
  • Talk too quickly
  • Stutter
  • Forget what you planned to say
  • Have a panic attack

Not everybody is able to stand and deliver a speech confidently or calmly

Speaking out in front of people is probably the one of most common fears. It is putting yourself out there to be vulnerable and this can be daunting.

It is not necessarily the fear of public speaking that concerns but the fear of failure. The belief that you are not good enough will come from an situation in the past.

Hypnotherapy can help you to change the thoughts and images that you play in your mind and the unconscious decisions that you have made about yourself.

Hypnotherapy can help you to have the confidence to have a voice!

Unfortunately the beliefs we have as children often stay with us well into our adult lives.

Personal note:

I remember at school having to take it in turns reading with the class. In between each students turn the teacher, in his infinite wisdom, thought it was a good idea to test an individual on the spelling of a particular word. Failure to do so correctly resulted in receiving 100 lines. It might have well been 100 lashes to me, a quiet girl that worried about doing anything wrong. However, if the person tested after you got theirs wrong, then they took your lines as well as their own!

For me the fear of speaking aloud started from here I think. As my turn came round, I felt sick, my cheeks and face burned and my heart raced. I noticed how my voice sounded different when I was reading out loud, I often muddled my words. Even the simplest of words I seem to mispronounce. What I perhaps didn’t realise was that classmates were also sitting there in dread and only giggled at mistakes made out of their own fear. At 10 years old I didn’t know there was such a thing as a nervous laugh.

To me, they were just laughing at me. I looked stupid. Nobody likes looking stupid.

A belief was born….
